South Carolina Trip
In February I took the kids to South Carolina, by myself. That’s right, I lost my mind. I have never traveled alone with them and the logistics of it all had me a bit anxious. A New England winter will make anyone brave, if it means warmer temperatures. Well, it turned out to be so much fun and I would do it all again, minus having my wallet stolen.
The kids were such troopers. They must have sensed my fear in the airport because I didn’t have to give mom eyes once, the silent don’t mess around look. Once we landed my parents were there for back up and my sister arrived a couple days later. Our first day we explored Charleston and scoped places out for the week.
I had heard Hot Little Biscuit was a yummy spot and it did not disappoint. There was a line when we got there but it was fast moving. We walked all over the city and stopped into Lake Pajamas. The store is beautiful and the pajamas are so comfortable.
The aquarium was the best aquarium I have been to. Everyone at the aquarium went out of their way to make sure the kids got to see and touch everything. The Sea Turtle hospital left a lasting impression on the kids. They still talk about not using plastic bags for the turtles. It was also HUGE and interactive. We spent the entire morning there.
We did a lot of eating! In Charleston my favorite meal was at Basic Kitchen. I loved everything about it there, healthy food options, the vibe, the back patio, and the service. Taco Boy was a fun spot for the kids and no trip would be complete without cupcakes. We stayed in Isle of Palms and our favorite restaurant there was the Obstinate Daughter.
We didn’t hit a home run in the weather department but the kids could have cared less. The sun came out a couple of times and we raced to the beach at the sight of sunshine.
The architecture in the city is stunning. The kids even sat through a carriage tour. Actually, Mae fell asleep but the older kids enjoyed it.
This trip gave me the travel bug. Traveling and exploring with my kids made me fall in love with them in a whole new way. Visiting my parents definitely gave us a leg up and added to the fun. Spending time with my niece, nephew, and sister was the cherry on top.
Charleston and Isle of Palms are funky and historic while being kid friendly and we only scratched the surface. I hope we make it back.
